Key Moment
Boston entered the second half with a solid 11-point lead thanks in large part to their outstanding defensive effort. Less than seven minutes into the third quarter, the Celtics had ballooned that lead to a whopping 30 points.
Assisted by four Charlotte turnovers, the C's went on a 21-2 run that took only 6:06 to complete. Paul Pierce scored eight straight points during that spurt by hitting back-to-back threes and slamming home a fast break dunk.
With the Celtics up by 30 points, Doc Rivers was able to pull his starters one by one and rest them for the entire fourth quarter. It was a critical run because the Celtics were in the second night of their first back-to-back of the season. Rivers didn't want his starters to play big minutes tonight, and he got his wish as a result of that third quarter push.
